Oberdorfer Pump Supplier

I looked over the forum and didn't see any rules against this, but if I need to remove this post, please let me know and I'll take it down.

I run a pump distribution website based out of St. Louis, MO and noticed a decent amount of discussion around the Oberdorfer N202M series pumps. We're a stocking distributor for Oberdorfer, along with a lot of other pump manufactures. If you're looking for a specific pump / part / repair kit and don't see it on our site, reach out to me and I may still be able to get it for you!

I wanted to let you guys know about us as we try to have the lowest prices for everything we offer, and we also have free shipping within the Continental US. IF you do find a product cheaper, we will try to match the competitors price, because we want to keep our customers.

We're not some massive corporation, just a small business in St. Louis that cares about customers, and not just making a dollar. Please feel free to post here if you have any questions, send me a direct message, or even an email if there's anything I can do to help!

Thanks for your time!

Hi All,
My Sherwood was leaking and I was quoted a price for the replacement kit that was nearly as much as the price I eventually sourced the Oberdorfer  entire direct replacement pump.

I was searching the Cat. site as usual and came across Andrew's post.  I contacted him and and ordered the Oberdorfer pump, which has now arrived in Tasmania, after a long trip from the US.

The pump came with attachment fittings to the engine block, a gasket and hose fittings.
I found that the best fit was to use the existing left hand Sherwood block fitting, because it made a more secure fitting.  I also found that by using the Sherwood inlet fitting and the new outlet fitting everything went together quite smoothly.  The Oberdorfer is a little smaller than the Sherwood.

I am grateful to Andrew for his friendly prompt service and there is no doubt his price was the best I could find. Even with postage to Australia I now have a new pump for les than $100 more than a kit for the Sherwood.  To me it was a no brainer!

cheers

Scott - question for you -- I just got my boat a year ago - and one of the first things I did was buy a spare M202-15.  When digging into it a bit more I found what I have is the 202M-07 (with grease cup) --
For ease of replacement I would like the pumps to be the same.  So my question is - is there an advantage of one over the other - in other words should i buy another -15 and sell the -07 - or visa-versa.  I'm thinking it would be better to have the -15 and loose the spacer and shaft sex changer

Do the -15's use O rings or super thin gaskets, will my supply of -07 impellers work on the -15, do you sell the elbow to go on the pumps - so many questions.

Thanks
Les

Hi Les,

Hopefully I can answer all your questions as best as possible. I do have 1 question for you though which will help me guide you in the right direction. What engine model do you have? Is it a Universal?

The only "advantage" of one over the other would be the installation of the pump on your motor. They both have the same size ports and will flow the same. The only difference between the -07 & -15 is the mounting flange. The -07 has a 2 bolt and the -15 has a 5 bolt flange.

I can't confirm if you'll be able to loose the spacer and shaft sex changer by going to the -15, without knowing what engine you have. Even then, I can't guarantee I can give you the correct answer for that question.

The -07 & -15 impellers are the same. In terms of using a gasket or o-ring for mounting the pump, that will all depend on the mating surface of the motor. Oberdorfer does not supply any gaskets or o-rings to go between the pump and engine block because there's too many variables with what the mating surface of the engine block could be.

Hopefully this answers your questions!

Thanks Scott, I have an old (probably 82-83) version of the Universal M25.  Later versions came with the -15, early ones the -7 - I feel confident the -15 will work.  I have the gasket for the 5 bolt flange to the engine.  In your diagrams it looks like there is a o-ring that seals the impeller cover on the pump.  On my -7 it is an very thin paper gasket - the o-ring would allow me to check the impeller without having to replace that gasket every time.

These folks were a big help in solving my Oberdorfer problems. Please note that they will re-build your Oberdorfer pump as well as sell you a new one.

Two questions for Scott...

1.  I, like Les have an older Universal M25 enginge running a N202M-7...  However, the way it is set up on my motor, the belt rubs against one of the nuts on the two flange mount.  Thus creating a healthy spew of belt dust and chewing the belt up in time.  I have to believe that a N202M-15 would be a solution by moving that bolt, no?

2.  I removed the cover to check the impeller and see what I needed to do and water (GALLONS OF WATER) spewed from the pump for about 15 minutes.  The raw water intake valve was closed.  Could it be coming from the exhaust line?  Just trying to figure it out...

Thanks,
Hart

I will take pics tonight but  iirc the closest bolt to the belt is the alternator tension belt.  There is a weird mix bolts holding the pump to the engine.

When I last changed the impeller only about a pint of water escaped.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I'll see if I can answer all the questions.

Les,
All the 202M series pumps come with o-rings for the cover plate. From my understanding they did away with the gaskets a while ago.

If your engine can accept the bolt pattern for the N202M-15, you will be able to do away with the shaft sex changer. The -15 is a Male tange while the -07 is a female tange. I'm unsure about the spacer though.

Hart,
I would believe that by going to the -15, you too will do away with the shaft sex changer and that mixed with the mounting flange should prevent any rubbing issues in the future. I could be wrong though without seeing pictures of the motor / belt / application area.

In terms of what caused the water to spew out, I can't answer that. Hopefully one of the other guys here can assist with that issue.

Looks like on mine there is a counter sunk machine screw there and not a bolt.  And yes the -15 would avoid that problem

I'm finally replacing my Sherwood raw water pump on my M35B C36 #2164 (2003 year).
Thanks to these forums, I learned about the Oberdorfer N202M-837 replacement kit for the Sherwood.
This kit contains the Oberdorfer pump N202M-908, as well as the mounting bolts and L-attachments, two hose elbows, and gasket.
Pumps N Parts Online's price is a respectable $397, free shipping, and no tax shipped to CA.
Unfortunately, in speaking with Scott, they were out of stock, with more inventory in transit.
As I couldn't wait, I sourced one locally in San Diego for $495 plus 10% sales tax (sales tax in LA County just increased to an astonishing level!), or about $550.

Thanks to Pumps N Parts for the great pricing!

Steven - that sounds like too much money.
Here is where I got mine
https://www.pumpsandpartsonline.com/shop/oberdorfer-pumps/rubber-impeller/rubberimpellerpumps/N202M-16
It is priced at $215.00. I modified its base, it is easily done.
I have images that I can send you if you would like to see how to make the modification. I have a spare pump on board to replace if it fails while on the water.

My trusted Oberdorfer N202M-16 finally after 220 hours has started to weep. I am quite happy with its performance.
I have ordered the repair kit (part number 11691) from www.pumpsandpartsonline.com for $ 53.00  ( free shipping).
I have never replaced these parts.
Can anyone tell me if you have replaced them? Is is safe to replace them while the pump is attached to the engine.
The problem that I am thinking is that after the shaft is removed any water remaining in the pump may drip down into the engine
through he hole that is used to lubricate the shaft where it joins the engine under the mounting base.
Do I need to remove the pump to replace all the seals - or can I replace them from the front?

You need to pull the pump to replace the seals.  Close the raw water thru hull.  Pull both hoses off the pump.  Pull the pump from the engine.  For those with the -03 pump pull out adapter.  Clean up the engine where the pump was mounted to remove any gasket material.  If worried about getting crap in engine use duct tape to seal.

Replace all the seals re-install with new gaskets.

Leslie, thank you for your help.
I decided to replace the seals myself.
I have posted photos of how to perform this repair in my other post - see link below.

You will find the link to the album for this installation in the link above..
I am sure it will help others

Another option might be to completely remove the Oberdorfer pump from the engine and send it to Scott & Andrew at Pumps and Parts On Line for re-building. While it's a simple matter to replace the pump's impeller - the shaft seal might be quite a different matter as it is a 'press' fit. I believe the shaft seal is a graphite fitting and must be installed with equal pressure using an arbor press or (if your are skilled) a bench vise.
They do business as Cardinal Pumps in St. Louis, MO. See this link for contact information; http://www.cardinalpump.com/?attachment_id=481

I now have the replacement seals. I am wondering if lubrication is needed before re-installing the shaft.
I have a large drill press to insert the seals. Is that sufficient force?

Haro;
Not sure about the force that would be developed by your drill press but a 4 inch bench vise will do it.
