A long sailing career drawing to a close

There was a time when I insisted we live in a wood clapboard house. I loved the look of traditional stained cedar siding. However climbing a 28 foot wobbly extension ladder to reach the peak eventually grew old and now we reside in a bright vinyl clad home-  without a ladder.

On the water, I always admired boats wearing canvas and stuck my nose up at passing "stink pots" and their ability to drown out the peace.

After stepping onto and falling in love with a 12 foot Beetle Cat when I was five, I find our beautiful Catalina 36 is growing to be too much too much care for, for a 72 year old. The boat is in it's prime but unfortunately I am not and I find myself again trading wood for vinyl.

We are moving to a 28' Cutwater with a small diesel that likes to efficiently run at 7-8 knots- not too noisy and not a big wake. It won't  accommodate all our family at the same time, but will be a means of providing time on the water.

So,  if any have friends who are looking for an exceptionally clean, well maintained MK II, that is aggressively priced, First Light is posted on Boat Trader.

This forum has been a tremendous resource over our 13 years of ownership and the Catalina 36 has been a fantastic boat!

Happy Sailing to All

PS- A few stories of First Light are mentioned in our Amazon published book, "A Family on a Sailboat. A 65 year Nautical Journey"
