Propane Stove

What relatively new propane stove/oven are you using on your C36 MK1?
My boat is a 1985 Hull # 397.

I am replacing the old GSI CNG stove/oven with a propane stove/oven.

I found one post where a Dickenson Marine Caribbean 2-burner  stove/oven  is used.

Is anybody using a Force 10 2-burner standard or compact stove/oven?

My understanding is new Seaward propane stoves are no longer available.

I measured the space in the galley for the stove. The width on my stove enclosure is a little wider at the top than the bottom.  This is what I measured:
 Top:     W 22 1/4" D: 16" H: 21 3/4"
Bottom: W 21 3/4" D: 16" H: 21 3/4"

I ordered the 1 gallon tank locker kit from Sure Marine. I am going to put the tank locker in the lazarette and have already installed the vent thru hull in the transom.
Thanks
John

Just installed a Force 10 stove model 63251 (which, in their catalog, is called "American Standard" size) to replace the GSI CNG stove/oven in our 1985 Mk I #466.  It was a perfect fit -- it is essentially the same dimensions as our old GSI stove (which worked just fine, but, alas, getting CNG refills was getting to be close to impossible in our area, and will be impossible in some of the areas we intend to cruise to if the pandemic ever ends).   Indeed, the Force 10 dropped right into the existing gimbel brackets for the old GSI stove.

A C36IA member who was parting out his MK 1.5 (sadly wrecked in a hurricane) on this site's classified section here sold me the salvaged tank locker, which in his boat was a drop in to one of the two lazarettes (his boat had a walk through stern).  I glassed in various bits so that it could be mounted in the full-width lazarette found in our older boats have, as well as fashioned a lid out of starboard.

The locker does eat up some of that nice wide storage space in the lazarette (good for things like dingy oars, and our electric outboat), alas.   And having to add a solenoid, propane fume detector, etc., makes the conversion no small job.

Matthew,
I noticed in your picture of the stove that it appears you did something with your icebox lid. Do you have any post or details with what you did?

Gary -
Not sure what it is you are seeing vis-a-vis the icebox lid.  Other than add weatherstripping (not visible in the picture) and a clasp to hold it open, no mods

There is a hinge on backside of cover looks like you lift lid up in 1 piece rather than side 1/2 at a time. Wondering how that works for you?

Gary --
On ours -- as it came when we bought it (no idea if this was the factory setup) --the aft half of the icebox lit is hinged on the aft end (and flips up against the bulkhead).  The forward half is hinged on the port side and flips up against the dish cabinet (and has a take-apart hinge so it can be removed entirely if needed); I added a clasp for when we need to keep it opened.
Is yours different?  (Someone just posted pictures of their new boat and it looks like there is a hinge between the two halves)

Our C36 came from the factory with a Hillerange stove/oven installed. It's been a good, problem free unit since the boat was new in 2005. We found propane  more convenient in that it eliminated the annual search for CNG to run the stove on our C30, which in turn, was much better than the pressurized alcohol stove on our old Cape Dory which created a musroom fireball that singed eyebrows when initially lit.

As well bought a Force 10 for my 1984, you have to be careful there are 2 sizes that are within an inch apart, I had to send it back and replace with the one I should have received.   I built my own propane locker out of two split sono tubes that glassed inside and out so I can fit a spare propane tank for my dinghy.  Again it was a perfect fit.
