Seems there's a couple of options.... FSR, the blue stuff, or EZ-ON EZ-OFF (by Starbrite or WM), which is a combination of Oxallic HCL Acids. Last year I painted on FSR and went back and wiped and rinsed it off. It seemed to work just ok.
I thought I would ask the group before I went out and bought the product for this year.

On-Off. I've used this for years... wet surface, spread on with a cheap brush, rub with a kitchen sink teflon type pad if necessary, rinse off. Takes minutes. You'll need to wax afterwards so I don't recommend doing this while the boat is in the water from a dock.

I like On-Off too (Or is it Hull Off?). But, if the scum line is not bad, you have lack of rinse water, or want to clean mid season with the boat in the water, Mr Clean Majic Eraser pads are terrific.

Thanks guys! I'll give On-Off a try this year. Is it the Starbrite product or the Mary Kate On-Off? See the pics....
ps: we are huge fans of the Magic Eraser, we use it everywhere......

The ON OFF product works great. I however mostly use it for removing rust off of loose hardware, nuts and bolts when I’m rebuilding or fixing a item. I use it full strength in small quantities and avoid breathing it in. Don’t leave anything in it for more than a few minutes. It will eat away the rust. It will also leave a cloudy film on stainless that I then use 3M rubbing compound to buff back shiny and new. I first discovered this when I was trying to remove rust stains on the gelcoat in one of the lockers. Previous owner had stored a rusty tank. Everything I tried did not remove it. Finally I soaked a few pieces of Kleenex tissue with this stuff and left it overnight. Next day all rusty and completely disappeared. I also used this technique in the anchor locker. Remember it emits very caustic fumes.
when I had really bad oil stains on the waterline this product did not work. What finally worked for that was turtle wax is bug and tar remover.

I picked up some RustAid at Lowes which I think is made by GoofOff and a super bargain at $10 a gallon. It worked amazing and I didn't seem to have to scrub it, just put it in a spray bottle and then spread it out with a deck brush then hosed it off. Attaching a photo of my test spot, sprayed it on then 10 minutes later hosed it off.
I tried the FSR and it just seemed like I had to really work at it to make a difference.

This year I went with the Mary Kate GEL product instead of the FSR as I did last year. I believe it did a better job than FSR.....
I used painter's tape on the top line of bottom paint before applying with a chip brush (directions said to use a "natural fiber brush" but the cheap disposable brush was fine (I avoided sitting the brush in the cup between applications). I went around twice, only because I had extra in my cup. Wear gloves and safey glasses per the instructions. Good product, the 32oz bottle should last 4 or 5 years if you did nothing else except the scum line.
