Smooth is much better especially if you have the type with collars at the ends. You’ll get better flow, and less odor with the smooth.

I replaced both my electric and manual bilge hoses recently with the smooth inside type hose. The originals were very brittle. I used Shields 141 Series, Multiflex Bilge Hose, Black, 1-1/8" for the auto electric bilge that fits the Rule 2000 port (1 1/8"). The Manual hose that goes to the whalegusher manual pump (which I also changed out) is same stuff but in 1 1/2".   I got mine at Go2Marine.com. Their sku for the  1 1/8" is ​469019. I bought it on sale last year but it's now $1.41 per foot.  I bought 34 feet of the 1 1/8" and ended up cutting off a few feet but can't remember how much. The 1 1/2" only seemed to come in a 50' roll so I have a bunch ofd that left over.  Don't use a check valve, it's just another thing to fail or stick closed when you most definitely don't want it to.  Also the 1" size I used to replace all my water tank fills.
