cabinet space

Has anyone altered the silly pull out drawrs in the V Berth? Would like to maximize this space.
Also I might remove the chart table chair for a fridge ??
Thanks

Richard:  I use the V-berth drawers to organize most of my smaller spare items and some infrequently used tools.  It free's up other storage for more frequently used items (mostly the admirals stuff).  I did re-purpose the starboard tilt out drawer into a return air/filter for my AC which is under the V-berth. I use my Nav Station so I put a small frig on the shelf in the aft cabin. I don't like the heat it generates except in the Spring and Fall.

Some suggestions: first remove mattress, then remove bow tank wooden cover.  This will let you look aft and likely see where the retaining clips are.  I believe you will then see the philips (star head) screws.  Have someone catch the drawer so it doesn't drop on the floor.  Tell us how you did it.

I've seen several C36 photos where the chart table chair back was removed to make opening the stern cabin door easier, so I did as well. -- How many of you have done this?
Chic Lasser posted an article on converting the under-table area into a storage cabinet: https://www.catalina36.org/members/technical/upgrades/nav-station-cabinet
The concern with a fridge would be the bottom because, as I remember, the sole rises up sharply at the back (starboard side) of the table area.  You'd probably have to put a shorter fridge it, and create a shelf for it to rest on.

I'm all for seing your plans for better storage under the V-berth. I lift the cover and store larger tools and a spare anchor in that space behind the small drawers.  I agree, it is terribly designed.

I took out the chair and put in a 12 volt frig and added a wine cabinet ahead of it

I was going to install a propane/110v/12v fRidge from an RV bit that deal fell through (would have fit the tight bottom space ideally), but ended up with the correct sized cooler (I pump out the ice melt water with a vacuum extractor every morning) and an A/C/heater/dehumidifier that I vented through and out the rear cabin. See photo.

Years ago I modified those pull outs into cabinets. I built bulk heads forward and put shelfs in and used the pull out face as a new door. Much more usable space. Not sure if I did a write up on this mod but maybe something to do down the road.  If interested and have questions email me off line and maybe I can help.

Here are some pictures of my modification. You will notice I made cabinets different sizes and doors swing in.

That really reclaims some space.

The floor, so shiney, so beautiful, so inspiring.

Looks good, what stain did you use to finish off the doors?

I took the wedge shaped bits of the doors anc mounted the doof hinges on the door side. Left the space for bulkier item storage. Much better than those stupid wedge shaped containers.
