Hello - My wife Trish & I just purchased a 1983 C36 hull #0094 - Mahalo. The boat is currently in Bellingham, WA but when there is space we plan on moving it to Everett. We will be cruising the San Juan and Gulf Islands. After ~25 years with out having a boat bigger than an I14 it is nice to get into something a bit bigger. Our last boat was a C-22 we kept on the Columbia & Snake rivers, occasionally trailering to the San Juan's. Lots of time in dad's Santana 27 and even more on Charter & Commersial fishing vessels. First order of business is to replace the belt driven autopilot with a new RayMarine EV200 with a linear drive (yes I've read most of what is in the tech section already -- good stuff). I'll try and document as I go as there may be subtle differences between the MK-II and mine. A swim platform and davits are high on the wife's priorities.

Welcome to both of you! You bought the right boat. I absolutely love my Catalina 36, as do my children...heck, even my wife has come around :o) And if you are anything like me, you are going to find that becoming a member of the C36IA is the most important thing you will ever do to get the most enjoyment out of your boat! I can't tell you how many times the advice I have received on this site has saved my bacon and given me peace of mind.
Congratulations and Welcome Aboard...You are going to absolutely love your boat!!!
All the best--JAS

Welcome aboard and good wishes for you with your new found boat. Sounds like you have already begone the journey of finding pertinent information about your boat. There are many articles and forum posts found in the C36/375IA website. Good luck with your sailing adventure and learning about the C36. I'm sure you will enjoy as much as we all have.

Les & Trish,
There are 2 of us C36IA members in Everett already so looking forward to you joining us. Look me up when you get there. I have hull # 177 so we can compare lots of notes.

Chachere - I did read that thread - and got a quote for John for his platform without the decking. I have tons of ipe which would be great for a platform, but a bit more maintenance than what he supplies.
dmotter - I just got a call an hour ago that I get to go pick my slip from those that are open - so might be there by 2nd or 3rd.
Thanks everyone for kind words and pointers, I hope I can give back more than I've already gotten.

Les,
Everett is going to want to put you on B dock, South marina. The river current often makes that a difficult place to dock your boat. If there any other open slips, you may want to grab those. I'm docked on F dock Central.

Yes I got B59. Rather be blown off than pushed into the slip.

If you have the Autohelm 3000, sell it on ebay. There's a big market for them if it still works. I just went with the EV100 whellpilot, and after some tweaks (upsizing the wire and putting it on a dedicated circuit), it works great. I was in 15-18 kts undersail and it handled beautifully. The below-decks EV200 would be preferable, but I am pleased with the 100, and the price.

Welcome to the forum! I'm down in Seattle, EBM, but hope to cruise the San Juans again this summer. Great to have another forum member in the area.

Thanks David - we hope get get up to Lopez for the 4th of July Fireworks in Fisherman's Bay. I grew up in Magnolia - so don't know how many times I've driven by while it was all Navy. I've met one other C36 owner in Everett already.
