I probably asked this question years before but have to ask again. My 1989 stern sits back in the water. The waterline boot stripe is in or just above the water. Spring cleaning of the stern waterline is a grueling process to remove the sludge and discoloration. Is this a common occurrence of the 1989 design ? I store very little in the lazarette.
Hi Bruce,
I think the issue is baked in. The C-36's hull is an older design without a lot of super wide beam aft for buoyancy. In addition, the prop shaft is angle such that the stern noticeable squats when motoring. For that reason, I do not have davits on may boat, but rather store the dinghy on the bow and use the windless to raise and lower it. (An other discussion.) And lastly, the water conditions of the mooring and sailing waters contribute. You're on Lake Erie, not regarded as the cleanest or least algae prone. The more time on the docks vs actually sailing also contribute. We cruise 6 weeks or more a summer and do much sailing other than cruising. By the way, I sail on Lake Michigan and other Northern Great Lakes.
My thoughts, hope they helped.

Thank you for your prompt feedback regarding the stern in the water. Other than design our boat sits at the mouth of the Rocky River and things do flow downhill ! Also our sailing was limited to a family illness. You nailed it on all cylinders. Thank you.
I might add on my 1987 MK l, I try not to fully fill the stern water tanks. If Im doing a long trip I may have to fill for shower usage, but otherwise avoid unnecessary weight which includes the outboard.
