I have BBQ, and have used it once, and then put it away.
Do most people keep it mounted all the time?
Where is the optimum place to have it mounted on a MKII?

Best place is the aft rail. I prefer the port quater as I am right handed. I leave it there for the summer as it makes for quick access.
It is good to have a small shelf or some thing to put plates on.... it is too essy for a juicy steak to slide off the plate you hold in your hand. ?.. yes......do not ask.....good thing my freinds had an extra.

Yep, that's the same place where I installed mine - port aft; very handy indeed. I picked up a little shelf like Ross alluded to, made from starboard material. It was in a stack of sale items at Tiffany's, er, I mean, WM, for only $28.
A project that ultimately turned in to somewhat of a major hassle earlier this Spring was adding a "tee" fitting and running a separate gas line back to the grill from the tank onboard. Of course, like most other projects onboard, it took twice as long to do it and 3 times the amount of what I thought I was going to spend. The result, I must say, is it is very convenient and I don't go through those gas canisters like I used to.

We keep ours on the starboard quarter rail because our dinghy motor lift is on the other side. We had a canvass cover that matches our sunbrella made for it and leave the grill on all the time except for the summer when it is put away. No sailing in the Florida summer heat and humidity for us.
