Universal M35 alternator

Dear all,

Need help, I own Eureka II since new back in 1991, so I know the engine has extremely being well maintained and runs like new al thought it is 31years old.

Alternator was serviced some 10 years ago, but as my intention is to keep the boat, I would like to install a new one. Honestly I do not need to upgrade to a more powerful output, we mainly race the boat and long travels are questions of the pass.

Any body knows the reference and brand of the OE equipment installed on our Universal M35?  I just would like to find almost the same so the replacements goes straight forward with no need of replace cables pulleys, etc...

All the best!

Which engine do you have, M35A or M35B? If you are not sure, post a photo of it.
if the current alternator is the original one  it's part number is printed on a sticker. You will have to remove the alternator to see it.

If yours is like mine, there is absolutely no identification on the alternator whatsoever.  However, if you have the original 51A alternator, then it is probably a Mando or a Prestolite.  I have service manual info for both that was published for Catalina by Universal, but the file is too large to attach it here.  If you are interested, email me at donlincoln@outlook.com and I will send it to you.

On page 58 and of the Manual the the part number for the original 51A alternator is listed as 041017.
I had to replace mine as it failed due to replacement of the its broken bracket ( Part No. 200436) as it needed a better grounding. I installed a # 8 ground cable to the shunt near the house battery. The new alternator is painted red instead of the original silver paint.

Thanks,

Looks this part is for the M35B, mine is A. Will be the same alternator?

42847, this the part number listed for M35A on the above link.
You are correct. It is different.
EDIT. it is not clear to me if this is the bracket or the alternator.
