Need to find a place to store my secondary anchor ( a 22lb delta) that has about 6' of chain and 150' of 8 ply brait. Have enough weight in the bow and really don't want to get into dividing the anchor locker.
The starboard lazarette seems like a likely candidate so one can get to it quickly. I'd like to contain the anchor to keep clear of the autopilot and from shifting when the boat heels. An anchor bag seems like a reasonable solution.
1. Has anybody bought or made one?
2. Where did you attach it so it can be easily removed to gain access to the lazarette?
Many Thanks.....

Sure Bruce,my C36 came with 20#danforth,15ftchain,150ft nylon 3 strand, all in a heavy canvas bag stowed in port cockpit locker...its just a coarse heavy bag, really wide mouth,2 heavy canvas carry handles(one on each side of wide mouth)and the bitter end passed thru the bottom of the bag with a stopper knot..It stows out of the way, doesnt tangle with other gear and doesnt confuse the forward chain locker area.

I'm on a C34 so I don't really know what kind of storage you have. How about a 5 gal paint bucket. Coil the rode/chain in the bottom and place the anchor in last. A friend on a 30' does this, not sure how big his delta is.

This may or may not apply to your anchor question, but we use 6 plastic cat litter buckets, the ones with the square footptint. That allows us to store a lot of items in the large port locker efficiently. If we need items in the rear row of three, we can slide the front row buckets to get at the rear.

I lined a 18 X 24 plastic tub with DRI Deck Tiles to allow the air to circulate around the wet gear. The DRI Deck tiles at the bottom of the bow locker keeps the wet chain aired out. The big bag solution would also reduce dings and entanglement with the other cockpit locker stuff. Good idea!

We have three big plastic "milk" cartons in our port locker. One holds an old anchor and chain and rode, the others hold cleaning materials, oil, antifreeze, that kinda stuff.

Good ideas - all. My thinking is that the secondary anchor may get deployed once or twice a season and I am "attempting" , not too successfully, I may add to keep the port lazarette available for prime time stuff.
It might be fun to run a contest of what everyone stores in the port lazarette and the winner gets a Partridge in a pear tree. I can tell you now there's stuff in there I haven't used all season.....

I started a new thread under General for that topic, Bruce.

I installed a Danforth holder on one of the vertical stanchions on the pushpit to hold a stern anchor for when i use it in the Delta. The Danforth is stored in the anchor locker when not in use. I can have it out for a few days and stick the rode in a bucket.
The holder is the one that holds the rectangular section near the crown, not the one that holds the round bars at the flukes.
