I am new to our 2003 C-36 wing keel std rig. Hull 2163
I can't seem to locate my GPS at the moment and I think the speed indicator which is a Raymarine ST - 60 may be reading on the slow side. At least I sure hope so.
The bottom was just cleaned. We sail on Eagle Mountain Lake near Ft. Worth so we get great wind and little wave action and zero current.
The main and 155 genoa are in good shape.
I would love to know what speeds to expect under sail and power.
Engine is Universal M-35 with 15 x 9 3 blade prop.
Thanks for your help

Similar model (2003) 2135 on fresh water (Lake Mead) with wing keel. I have noticed recently that the GPS and the Raymarine Speed differ by about 1 knot with the GPS being faster. I spent time making sure the impeller was perfectly clean but I still show a difference. Under power at 1800 RPM (Same engine and prop) I usually cruise in the 5.5 Knot range. With a 135 Genoa and 20-25 knots of wind on a reach, I am in the high 7's and can hit low 8's. My maximum has been 8.3. Hope this helps, enjoy!

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. Looking at the water through the transom(what a great immediate report card on trim) it sure looks like we are going faster than the 4-5 kts the speedo shows.
I try to convince myself that speed does not matter. But I am not just a very good salesman even to myself.
It is hard to compare one boat's speed at a given rpm (usually not calibrated) with another boat. Different props, engines, etc.
So many sailors have a handheld gps it shouldn't be too dificult for you to borrow one for a few hours. Make sure it is set to read kts and do a measurement in both directions. Even lakes can have a little surface current if there is any breeze. If a friend has a calibrated knotmeter or installed gps, just travel right next to him under power for a few minutes and ask him his speed.
