Re-Bedding new chainplate covers

Hi all.  I started re-bedding these 'up-graded' chainplate covers.  I did just 1 today, because I usually do things 3 times before I get them right so I didnt want to have to do 2 covers ( only 2 because my lower shroud chainplates are my main issue and I didn't want to commit to buying 6 right off the bat)  a total of 6 times ;) There is a void where the new cover's vertical aspect is, I did read that this void is to be filled with (I'm using the 'bed it' butyl'ish compound) I did make sure to get some in that void, but I'm afraid I didn't put enough and will be re-doing this, along with I probably tightened too much right from the get go, as their web site insists that incremental tightening over the course of days is the way to go.  So basically I bombed all these 'techiniques' I feel.  Has anyone any experience with installing these up-graded plates that could impart some wisdom?

Thank you

David, I bought the upgraded chain plate covers from CD and have yet to start on them. I did buy all 6 however, and will attempt this summer as weather gets warmer. I have heard that some of the new covers needed to be ground down so there is enough room for the pins in the turnbuckle. I', also interested in other sailors woes & suggestions before I start this job.
Thanks
