C36 List:
Can someone/anyone please provide me with a source(s) for a new prop shaft for a 1997 MarkII, hull no. 1630. Cutlass replacement did not produce the results I was looking for; the shaft continued to ride on the stern tube in a whipping manner and further investigation revealed a bent shaft. I would rather replace than repair since it's brass unless someone can tell me I'm nuts to do that.
Second, I am in also in need of a replacement Edson Wheel Drive, 800-8, or at least one half of a drive. Anyone aware of a good sailboat junk yard? In removing the shaft and the rudder, the forward circumference of the drive is bent and cracked. Certain signs of some sort of trauma that occurred prior to my ownership.
Any and all responses are appreciated.

Often a good local machine shop, or a local prop shop, can custom build the shaft you want. I suggest you go to stainless steel, as I did when I needed one. S/S will be less fragile in future encounters with crab pot lines, etc.

Have you tried CatalinaDirect?

Dave, Before ordering a new shaft, make sure you get the right length and material. I have a 1993 C36 with a M35A engine and my original shaft was 55"
. I had a new one made two years back by a marine prop shop in Port Clinton for $250 plus $45 to reface and fit the coupling. I had my shaft shortened to 53.85" to reduce the overhang on the strut. I have an AutoProp. Also, all shaft materials are not equal. Most shafts are made from Aquamet 17, 19, or 22. Aquamet 19 is used here on the Great Lakes, while Aquamet 22 (22% Chrome) is recommended for salt water. I don't know what stainless material Catalina Direct supplies.

Here is the shaft vender that I used. This company goes out of their way for customers. I Replaced my BRONZE shaft 2 seasons ago. I also had the same problem you had. I sent in the photos and they were in the Main Sheet, if you remove the cutlass first your shaft will slide by the rudder.
Just double check everything carefully and double check you length. I had my shaft in less then 4 days
