mast step compression?

I own a 95 MkII. I just noticed that the cabin sole in the area of the mast step is cracked/separated by about 3/16 inch. Anyone have any ideas how to tell if the mast step has compressed or the sole has buckled? The standing rigging does not seem to be slack. The does appear to have made hard contact mid ship as evidenced by bending of the rub rail track. Is mast step compression a common problem?

I can’t say if it’s a common problem but I had the issue on my 84 MK1. On the older boats the depredion or pan that mast step sits in is molded with the hull liner. Between that and the hull is a wood block. The block is glassed in and if fresh water has intruded the block may be rotten as it was on m 84. On the newer boats the depression is separate from the liner, the factory silicones the joint. Right after I purchased the boat I had the standing rigging replaced. (The boat sat for 10 years prior to my purchase) With the ”new” tension on the rig is when the mast began to “sink” within 60 days I had a ½” gap/crack. I pulled the mast (had it painted and rewired) cut out the depression, dug out the very rotten block and filled it back in with a West Systems mixture that Catalina Yachts recommended and caped that with a aluminum plate. She is now better than new.
