My MK II is a 2002. Last season I noticed that it was becoming difficult to furl and unfurl the jib.
I spoke to the Schafer people and it seems this is not an uncommon problem. The older furling bottom drums have bearings of course, and you can't lube them or they jam up, but they did not provide an easy way to wash them to get the salt from spray off them.
They have since come out with a new design that has flush "holes" provided in the drum so you can stick a hose in and wash them down thoroughly.
Thought I'd pass this along should anyone else be having this problem. The new drum costs about $100and, I've been told, takes about 2 hours to replace. A friend did this in the water but its obviously easier on the hard so good for this spring. If you order one, make sure you get the correct part number from your old drum as there are two different models.
