I know that there are lots of you that have installed a backup bilge pump; which in my opinion is prudent. I own a 2001 MkII and I will be installing a backup bilge pump myself. My question to the group is where could I position the auto/manual switch on the port side? I would rather do that than run the wires over to the nav station. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your ideas and comments.

Glenn, I installed a Rule automatic 500 gph back-up bilge pump with separate discharge to the stern. The fuse/panel is located next to the windlass switch under the stbd game table. This pump is wired to the windlass battery and searches for liquid every two minutes, keeps the water level lower in the bilge.
The current draw is very small, windlass battery drops less than 0.2 volts after two weeks of operation.

Glenn,
Unless I am misunderstanding, don't you have to run a new power cable from the nav station circuits over to the extra bilge pump? If so, it would make sense to install the switch there.

Duane,
My plan is to install a separate battery in the storage area just forward of the sink and have a solar panel attached to it to keep it topped off at all times. So, I really see no need for placing the Rule switch on the starboard side.

Thanks, Glenn. ...and now we know the REST of the story... ;)
Good luck with your project.

Tom Sokoloski has an article on page 2 of Upgrades on this site that talks about installing a 2nd bilge pump.

There is enough power to run both pumps but make sure each has a seporate local fuse lower than the pump breaker rating. You don't want lose both pumps because you blow the breaker.
I sure there is a reason for mounting the batery where you air condition should be install. Maybe you up north.
