Hello All,
I have a 1999 Cat 36 MKII and would like to put in a fresh water fitting so that I can take fresh water directly from the hose on the pedestal. My plan is to put a deck fitting somewhere and run a 3/8" line and "T" this in just downstream of the pressure H2O pump with a check valve.
My questions are
1) where to put the through deck fitting? I generally tie up bow in, but thought it might make more sense to put the deck fitting on the stern near the cable tv fitting?
2) Has anyone installed such a system to allow it to back flow so that one could fill their tanks by allowing it to back flow, say by putting in an extra valve that would attach to the manifold on the upside of the pressure water pump?
Thanks very much for the help.
Jim
Jim,
A few things to think about. The plumbing on a Catalina 36 is not rated for the 75-100 psi that you get from a municipal water system. If you forget to turn off the water when you leave the boat, and if a hose burst, or hose clamp falls off, your boat will sink. (It happens more frequently than you might think. Boat U.S periodically publishes data on insurance claims, and most boats sink at the dock.) At minimum, I would install a regulator, to reduce the pressure to approximately 25 psi. I believe that there are also automatic shut-offs available that will shut off the water if if flows for longer than a pre-determined time.

Jim,
I agree with Dave. You would definitely need a regulator. I installed this model a number of years ago, and have been very happy with it.

I never, never leave the boat with the hose connnected to the boat, even if the faucet at the dock is turned off. If the regulator every failed (it hasn't), no bilge pump could ever keep up with a full flow hose from the city water supply!

Tom, any advice you could give on how you mounted and connected into your system?
Thanks,

Thanks very much everyone for the great advice. Can you please tell me where in the hull you mounted the through deck?
Thanks Very Much!
Jim
Jim and Allan,
On my MkI, the shore power fitting is just outboard of the port primary winch. I mounted the water fitting/regulator next to it. From there the hose went down next to the fridge, and tee'd into the water supply just after the pump. I think I remember on the MkII the shore power fitting is on the transom? If so, that would be a great place for the water fitting/regulator.
