Deisel Generator in a C36 MKII

Has anyone installed a diesel generator like the NexGen in a C36 MKII? Where was it placed? What mods had to be made to make it work? Any product recommendations, horror stories, or other advice.
I have looked at the Honda 2000 option and may consider it but would rather have an integrated package so I don’t have to carry large quantities of gasoline.
Thanks
Dave

Dave,
There have been a few discussions thru the years about owners thinking of installing diesel generators in their C36s, but I don't know of anyone who has actually done it. They may be out there, but they are hidden well. The two concerns voiced when people considered it were where to put it, and the effect on the boat's trim. Maybe someone will prove me wrong?!?!? :-)

Nesta May is a Mk 2 number 1905, located in Oakville, on Lake Ontario and I have a custom installation of a raw water cooled Fischerpanda diesel generator which is located in the outboard side of the large port cockpit locker, utilizing about 50% of that available storage. It draws fuel from the main diesel tank and provides sufficient power to run all 110 systems including Air-conditioning/Heat. Electric start/stop controls and warning lights are mounted/located at the nav. station, on the panel.

Weight and boat trim is not an issue as the entire install weighs less than one large adult. It has less impact than filling a water tank and on this boat is counter-balanced by battery installations inside/under the starboard settee.

This is an expensive customization which has been operating perfectly for seven seasons, with no more than oil changes and water pump maintenance, but in view of its cost should probably only be considered on a very new boat.

There are numerous much cheaper portable alternatives where the cost savings significantly outweigh the inconvenience of carrying a little extra fuel.

If anyone is seriously interested in this type of installation, I would be happy to make photograghs available through e-mail: terry@bayley.ca

Thanks for the answers. I have been looking at the NexGen which is a bit less expensive than the Panda but still a very costly installation and I would probably have to install extra fuel tankage as well. It would be cheaper to buy 2 Honda portables and carry the extra fuel, but I was think of some extended cruising.
