CNG Oven Problem

CNG Oven Problem

Here's one: For no reason at all my oven gave up the ghost the other day. The stove top works just fine, as does the pilot light in the oven. The problem is that when I turn up the temp knob, the pilot light flickers around and gets a little larger, but the oven's flame diffuser thing (?) does not ignite after the standard 1 minute. In fact, it doesn't ignite after 5-10 minutes. I decided to poke around a little and I observed a couple beads of mercury on the bottom of the oven.

My guess it that there may be some kind of thermostat in the oven to regulate the temp that may have broken some how, but this is just a guess as I don't even really know what to look for in there. Anyone smart on the CNG ovens who can help me out?

As always, thanks!

I will stay tuned on this one as my oven does the same thing. I had not seen any evidence of mecury in my oven. I would guess that is how the thermocouple works to control the gas flow by using mercury to expand and open the main valve to the burner. If the mercury falls out it will not build the pressure to open the valve.

I would also think some of you may have replaced this thermocouple and could share your knowledge.

Tobaygo,
I suggest you give a call to Seaward Products in Whittier, CA. They made our ovens, and are VERY helpful. They can be reached at (562) 699-7997. I've heard that they have even helped trouble-shoot problems over the phone.

PS-You might want to update your profile/signature, so we know what your name is!

Did you switch to propane or something Randy?

Yes the tank was from our 30 Catalina we owned 6 years ago. It had a alcohol 2 burner in it and I found a used Cng stove/oven and replaced it in the 30, The tank was just to big for the boat so I bought a new smaller one for it. When I sold the boat 6 years ago I had the tank in my barn and never let it go with it. Now I am just trying to clean things out and did not want to just toss it out.

Creedence

Just curious, did you ever speak to Seaward about your oven problem?

Steve,

I was just saying to someone yesterday that thanks to my LONG to-do list, and my finite source of expendable income, boat maintenance has become a game of prioritization. I should be set to tackle the CNG issue in about a week or so, and I will definitely let you know what they say. Sorry about the delay, I haven't forgotten to follow up with the forum, it's just still on the to-do list!
