C375 check engine exhaust

We put our C375 back in the water for the sailing season and
took my brother in law (Bob) for a sail. Bob owned a C36 for several years
and just purchased C375. The surveyor for the new C375 found in his report:

"3. The engine exhaust hose is chafing against the edge of the microwave
containment box inside the starboard lazarette and needs chafe protection at
this point."

I then checked my C375 (Hull #16) exhaust hose and sure enough the identical problem which would have created a large hole in the exhaust system if not caught. It was a very easy fix but potentially dangerous.
All C375 owners need to check this.

I made the trek through the snow to check this issue on our C375 (hull 15). Catalina must have changed the routing as the hose does not get anywhere close to the microwave bulkhead mounted box in lazarette. The exhaust hose runs against the hull from the galley bulkhead to the exhaust port near the stern. Maybe a picture would clarify things.

Thanks for bringing it up.

From the sounds of things, Catalina needs to send out an advisory on this situation to all 375 owners of vintages where the hose is routed in this way. If they do not know which hulls are which, this model is not so old that they cannot advise all 375 owners to check this. This is a severe safety issue, caused by a flaw in design, but one that sounds easily remediable.
