Hello...I'm a new owner of a 2006 Catalina 36 Mk II going through problems left behind, and I've got a tough one here. In the galley, while facing the sinks, there's a pivoting drawer about knee level. It's good for galley things. My drawer or cabinet door has knocked out the latch catch mounted inside the cabinetry. Because of this, the door actually goes too far into the cabinet, sort of hyper extending, and on the opposite side, I can't keep it closed. Fortunately the wood as swelled and the door sticks, however I have a problem.
I see the frame work around that part of cabinets is held on by 4 screws, does that front framework come off? Or is there another way of getting into the cabinets,or behind them?
I have the knocked out latch catch, the staples used to mount it didn't hold. I was thinking of glueing it, because I can't see a way of getting behind that area to screw the catch in place.
Any help you have will be much appreciated. Thanks...Rob #2265

I have the same problem. My thought was to screw the latch part on using a small, right angle little cordless drill. Now, if I can only find where I put that drill!

That framework removes easily. Remove the drawers, then remove the four or six (or eight?) large screws, and lift the whole thing out.

Thanks Larry...Do the cabinets come out as a cassette? Meaning with all the framework? If that's the case, it should be easy to get behind it...Rob

Rob,
Yes, the cabinets come out with all the framework. Very easy to do. Check the plumbing to the galley sink. From memory, I can't remember if it is inside or outside the framework.

Hi Tom...I took a look at the cabinet last night, and I just want to make sure I do this right, because I would hate to wreck it. After taking out the 4 screws on the cabinet exterior frame, and removing the bottom drawer, the framework can be just pulled out?
Is there a seal of any sort connecting the exterior frame to the gel coat under the galley sink?
I figure, once the framework is removed, I should be able to screw the latch catch in place and put the framework back into place. Is it really that easy?!?! :)
Thanks...Rob #2265

It's really that easy. But take the drawers out of it first so that it's lighter and easier to handle.

One thing I've learned over the past 25 years of Cat 36 ownership is that you can just about take the entire boat apart with a #2 Phillips screwdriver. This is really helpful when doing modifications or for getting at things for maintenance or replacement. Just keep a bag of 3/8" teak plugs handy for the countersunk screws.

Thanks Guys...I'll give it a shot. We've owned our C36 one month tomorrow, and I've only been out on it once. hoping to get out on San Francisco Bay this weekend. I know folks that can't get out because of winter weather are cussing me, but as new owners who ahve dreaming of a C36 for decades, I just want to go sailing...Rob #2265 :)
