Bilge Water / Air Conditioner

On my never ending quest for a dryer bilge ( I have given up all hope of a bone dry one) I was thinking that the drain tube on the air conditioner which runs into the bilge, must be adding to the water. Since the drain is so low, and water does not flow upwards (unless it is water trying to find its way to my bilge to test me further) I am not sure if it can be re routed. Any thoughts? Perhaps buy more sponges?
Thanks
Rich

I don't think there is such a thing as a totally dry bilge on a Catalina 36. You can minimize, but not eliminate.

Rich, your AC might be below waterline, in which case even a dedicated thru-hull won't be of help. Might consider a specifically-designed "AC Bilge", with its own pump. That would at least isolate that source.

I also like a dry bilge however my AC does the same and I have learned to live with it. The amount of condensation is not that great however if you live in a high humidity area I could imagine that it generates a fair amount over a few days.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I don't feel so bad knowing other bilges are not dry. My neighbour on a Beneteau uses his bilge for extra storage. Dry asa bone. I will put up with some water.

What sort of stern gland do you have?

I am thinking about installing an PPS seal, and one of the advantages is the removal of another source of water into the bilge (or it should be the only source now the deck leaks have been fixed :))

I have a PSS shaft seal. I had a bone dry bilge for two years. But not anymore. I think I get some from where the hose comes out of the shower sump, plus I always remove/insert the knotmeter impeller every time I leave the boat (or it gunks up). And somewhere there seems to be a very slow leak in the fresh water system, just enough to cycle the pump every hour or so.

Irritating, but not the worse thing in the world. I sure wish it was dry.

I don't understand how anyone can have a dry bildge. At lest not on a sailboat that has an engine unless it has a dripless stuffing box. When my engine runs the stuffing box normally drips sea water which runs into the bildge.

Took a group out last week, motored for a couple hours, sailed for five. We took little water on deck, kept the rail out of the water, no rain and my bilge was dry as a bone on return. Likely got more wate aboard on the post sail washdown. Winter rain leaves me sponging out a gallon or two without fail.
