Backflow Valve Question

I have a backflow valve between my fresh water pump and the hot water heater on my 2002 Mk II. The valve is a Shurflow plastic valve that cost $15.

I've had this go twice on me and wondered if anyone else was having a similar problem and how they might have rectified it.

I should add I put in the higher pressure water pump 2 winters ago, but the valve is rated for 100 psi and the pump doesn't put that out. The valve lasted thru last sailing season.

Thanks

Chuck,

I purchased some plastic backflow / check valves when plumbing fresh water to my toilet. I picked them up at ACE Hardware, they had units with a plastic body and stainless valve and bronze body with stainless valves. The bronze unit should be impervious to corrrosion and would not distort under the heat of the hot water system like the plastic valves.

I am sure you could find these at any good size plumbing department.

Chuck if possible go with the bronze one. I have one on my hot water inlet and have not had an issue with it during the four years I have had.

Thanks for the input. Don''t know why, after 30+ years of sailing, I'd think of going to a marine supply store first for parts like these. I really do know better.

Must be a senior moment.
