My 36 has a st 4000 wheel auto pilot and the port side -10 degree button does not work, all other buttons work fine.
Is the st 4000 still serviceable or is it better to replace it.
If I were to replace it, can I just replace the head unit or does the whole thing, wheel stuff and all need to be replaced?
TIA

I know that if you can find a replacement 'head', you can just replace that portion. I did that in 2005. I do not know how easy it is to find such a replacement today.

Check with your local marine electronics shop first. They can probably do a bench repair. But if they can't, the factory service center can probably repair it for you. Go to Raymarine.com, and the site should lead you to a service phone number, or go to the Contact Us page.

When my ST4000 control head went on the fritz I discovered that Raymarine would no longer repair it and no longer made it. I searched the internet in vain to find a replacement. I found some used ones for sale on EBay but always got outbid to a price that seemed unreasonable in light of the cost of a new autopilot. My marina said they might be able to find one in a used parts bin but that never materialized. And that is the story of how I ended up with a new S-1 autopilot.
