Saw the thread on the cockpit scuppers with the broken off through hull. This brings to mind something I've been concerned about for some time, the white plastic through hull for the anchor locker drain. Mine sits at most 1 1/2" above the resting waterline. While underway, it's got to be underwater almost constantly. If the through hull were to break in the way that the cockpit scupper one did, it would be a real problem.
The fitting appears to be a white plastic, not Marelon. I'd assume that it is not as strong as Marelon, and perhaps affected by ultraviolet light? Why it was placed so close to the waterline is anyone's guess. While I'd like to move it, it's probably not practical.
Has anyone had a problem with that fitting or replaced it? I'd consider replacing it with either Marelon or bronze and include a ball valve just in case. It would take some time to get to it, but would at least allow the hole to be plugged in the event a hose popped off or failed.

Gary-
We recently purchased a 2005 '36 and I have had similar thoughts. Our through hull is right at the waterline, so if it failed, it would be very detrimental. I noticed the drain hose attaches to the bottom of the anchor well and dips below the water line and then travels back up to the through hull. Another concern I've had is the hose will act as a trap in the winter- collecting rain water and then freezing. The hose is rubber and probably can handle it, but I use the word "probably". I've been thinking about going to a bronze through hull and shortening the hose so i doesn't trap water.
I wonder if postings to older questions will appear on the home page, or you have to revisit the original discussion to find them?

I'm pretty sure the hose on mine makes a fairly straight run from the anchor locker drain to the through hull. So at least I don't have that to worry about and I think you're smart to correct it. I think my hose is plastic water hose, not rubber, but I haven't looked in there for awhile.
