Looking at Tom Sokos Julandra I like the way he put his crankcase breather vent into the intake manifold past the air cleaner. Some people brought up the idea that the engine could run away because of the oil. Has any one used some kind of air/oil separator to take care of this problem?

I put a $2.00 clear fuel filter in the breather line. Works great and I can see if any thing gets caught.

Did you plumb the hose into the air intake?

I put a 90 degree fitting in the top of air filter case and connected the other end of the hose to it. Seems to have worked very well all summer and reduced the engine smell a lot. There has been no evidence of moisture, or oil in the filter.
I also modified the original air filter to accept an off the shelf round filter. If I remember I will take a couple of photos.

So I took a couple of pictures . They are attached. what I did find different was there was some oil in the filter..... Not sure why as a month ago there was none. The engine has been a bit hard starting as well. Any ideas? Also is a pic of the air filter modified.

I like the way compass marine, mainsail did his. See his web site.He used a k&n filter which I have and went into the bottom of the filter. I am also going to put in a Racor closed crankcase ventilation ccv 1500-o4 so no oil will go into the intake. This is good for up to 40 hp engines.I think with this system things should smell better and no oil mist

I looked into the K&N filters but they seemed too expensive for what you get. The round filter was $10.00 and stock item at the auto parts store.
The crank case filter will have to be revisited. I was surprised to see how much oil was trapped by the filter.

I talked to the people at Racor and they advised the ccv1500-4 for engines up to 40hp.When the engine is running the oil is contained in the unit but when you shut down the oil is allowed to drain out.You can plumb this back to the oil pan or to a small container. The only problem is the price, the cheapest I found on line is around 270$. will install and let you know how it works

I have found a couple of simple designs for air/ oil seperators on the web. Cost is minimal. It maybe a winter project to add to the list.

I have a friend who has a 30ft Catalina and does not want to spend for the racor air/oil sep so if you could steer me to the web sites for building your own that would be great
