I have never seen that strut cavity open like that so it was quite shocking to me. I wish I had some advice for you but I am pretty sure someone here will.

Bryan and Duane,
I have seen the cavity open like that once before. It was during a factory tour in Woodland Hills. According to a factory drawing, the cavity is filled with a "resin/microballoon mix". I've attached that drawing (I hope!). Hope this helps.

Catalina probably use polester resin with the micro ballons. There are a number of different products availble that will do the same. I prefer Epoxy based materials as they are some what safer to use. My preferance would be MAS Epoxy systems. Many use West.

Both sites have lots of info on what you should use as fillers to build up the void.

I was thinking of framing with wood paint stick ,the one for mixing paint and then fill with epoxy the cavity???or should I put 2 fibreglass cloth lair to frame let dry and then fill the cavity.....I fell that with a big cavity like that, that the epoxy will harden before I finish? hope you understand my English sorry I am trying my best...

Bryan,
I think you should do some reading and watch a few videos about epoxy and its use. By thickening it to the consistency of peanut butter, and by applying several thinner coats, you do not need any battens or cloth to hold it in place.

Following up on Tom's suggestion, West Epoxy has some useful manual available for free download in PDF format. The site is http://www.westsystem.com/ss/use-guides/

Particularly helpful are Fiberglass Boat Repair & Maintenance (http://www.westsystem.com/ss/assets/HowTo-Publications/Fiberglass-Boat-R...) and Final Fairing & Finishing ( http://www.westsystem.com/ss/assets/HowTo-Publications/Final-Fairing-and...)
