Hi all, has anyone had a problem with the cabin door for the v-berth not closing because it hits the starboard locker?

Tim; Sounds like you've got one heck of a warped door there ! Mine - a 1990 hull # 1041 - does not hit the locker. I'll be down on the boat tomorrow and will measure the clearance for you.
Over the summer months, when the boat is in storage and on the hard here in Florida, I placed a de-humidifier in the boat to reduce the possibility of mold. It dried the boat out so much that very strange things began to happen. The formica lamination came off the salon table and had to be re-glued and none of my doors would close properly.Once I put the boat back in the water all the door closing problems were resolved. Everything works as it should.
Is the boat out of the water ?

Tim; Measured the clearance between the door and the locker; 3/8th's of and inch is the clearance on my hull #1041.

If the boat is on the hard, perhaps one of the stands is distorting the hull. Keep in mind the keel can support the hull and stands are to balance the boat.

My boat stays in the water year round and the door and bulkhead all look in place but the door comes approximately 2" from closing as if the door was too wide. It has been this way for the entire two years we have had her.

Just had my rig professionally re-tuned this past year (a luxury, if you've never had it done). The rigger told me a story about re-tuning a rig on a boat that was set way too tight. During the re-tuning, the owner complained about his cabinets not closing properly. After the tuning, the rigger asked the other captain to go down and check his cabinets, and everything fit properly again. He said that he would add another $100 to the bill for "carpentry work". Anyhow, how's your rig tuned?

Hi John,
That's a thought. I have a Loos Gauge from a previous boat but have not checked the tension on my shrouds. They are definitely not loose but they may be tight. Thanks for the suggestion. Does anyone know what the base tension should be?

Tim,
Concur with rig tune. You might see from my prior post on the project I just completed a major refit of my 1984 Catalina. Pre-refit my stateroom v-berth door did not properly close. Post refit she closed properly. Here is what I learned on the project about the deck to hull to bulkhead fittings, which there is a thread in this forum on a boater who had is entire bulkhead at the bathroom come apart. I've sailed my boat like a madman for years and love when she is pointed into the wind and heeled over, however, all that stress load on rigs goes somewhere. And it's completely natural to have a boat flex, they are supposed to. No one needs an absolute tight rig it will start to pull apart your deck. I'd recommend checking the tension of entire rig tuned. Unless you are some racer you don't need to have the rig too rigid. Now for the scary, what really was causing my rig and the other thread with the bulkhead issue, was the board between the keel and the base of the mast, that is what the mast sits on had rotted. Which is hard to tell unless you have the mast off. However, what was happening was the mast settled down just a hair which then caused extra strain on the standing rigging. Just tuning this might not help. It could also be the rigging is no longer in top shape and not holding up the rig properly and the loads are transferring to the deck. I would be willing to bet a cold six pack that you will get that door closed once the rig and associated supports are all tuned and or replaced as needed! However, I cannot underscore not to blow this one off, and to inspect and look for stress fractures around the bathroom bulkhead, in the bilge, around the base of the mast where it floats on the mast base. It could be any number of things, but its a definite sign something is up, those doors might be a bit here and there to moisture, however, it likely is other things out of harmony. Good luck, it's not that big an issue...until it is!

Thanks to everyone who responded, Capt Nick, now you have me concerned. I will definitely dig into this deeper.
