I decided not to make any modifications or editions to my boat in the first year of ownership.
Well, I have passed the one year mark, and have decided to take the plunge.
I don't watch much TV, but have to watch the news twice a day, and like watching a DVD once in awhile.
I don't want to have a TV that has the DVD built in to it.
The big question for me is whether or not to put it in the factory cabinet, or put it on the bulkhead wall where my table is stored.
I'm leaning towards bulkhead install.
I don't need a table that big, and am going to replace with something smaller, so it leaves that wall open.
I have read all the threads here that I could find on this subject, and looking for a little more information.
Is there anything in that wall that I need to be concerned about before drilling a hole through it? Any bracket suggestions?

Sounds like you have made your decision. From what I know, there is nothing in that bulkhead, other than the mirror on the other side. I considered mountung ours there but decided to go into the cabinet on a swing arm. I beieve it's a 22 inch. This way, there are no wires exposed and it keeps the salon clean. The last thing I want to see when sitting below, or just looking below is a tv. Of course, you can put a bigger screen on the bilkhead, if that is important.

David, which swing arm did you get? That's a nifty idea and one I hadn't considered.

Our boat has two 'NOs' as standing orders. One is 'No Yelling', and the other is 'No TV'.

David - I don't believe I have a record of the brand of the swing arm. I did get it at Best Buy. I can provide pictures of the installation if you need them. I believe there is an article on this issue on this site by a member and I used it as a guide.

not sure why on the bulkhead, I like mine tucked away, and tend to agree with David, no TV, just the odd movie, popcorn, then to bed in the V berth.
If I was on board for an extended period of time, I would possibly get a dish, but for now its ok tucked away.

Yeah, I should clarify that I use the term "TV" pretty broadly. I haven't had cable TV or an antenna for more than four years now, but I do enjoy movies, especially on a rainy day at anchor here in the PNW -- and on those it's nice having a screen larger than my iPad
One thing I've considered, and had a bit of luck with, is getting a small "pico" or mini projector, and then either projecting on a sheet mounted to the bulkhead or on a screen suspended above the starboard table. These cost under $500, can be connected to an iPhone / iPad, and most run on DC power. Not going to work on a bright sunny day, but heck in the middle of a bright sunny day I wouldn't be watching TV on board anyway :-)

I'm not a big TV fan, in fact I rarely even watch it.
I just like to watch the news in the morning and at night, so I guess I will just buy a little TV and stuff it in the factory cubby.

We made the big mistake of installing a TV/DVD for our daughter. A year later the iPad came out and the TV has collected dust ever since. The iPad is a better than the TV because she can watch where she wants, when she wants and with ear buds to boot. Also has her educational math & spelling games too.... The other great invention is her portable DVD player.. Wish we'd never installed the TV...
At home we don't even have cable TV, dropped it three years ago and moved to Netflix and Hulu.... Saved about $180.00 per month.....;)

I took out the old CRT TV and keep tossing around the thought of the TV. There's a TV over at Best Buy that would fit perfect.
No real interest in TV but figure an Apple TV for movies and pictures would be nice.
My other mind says it would make a very nice towel closet!!!

Blair, back to your original thoughts .... On Breezly the TV is in the space above the breakfast table, between the two cupboards. It works well there as my wife and I can lay out in the dinette and watch TV or DVDs.
The hutch is impractical for a TV for us as the PO installed air conditioning and ran a boxed-in duct up the outside of the mast. Hence you can't see around it to the hutch.
Personally I think the hutch is wasted space in today's era of flat screen TVs.
