I've recently purchased a 1985 MKI, and I'm replacing the standing rigging. I noticed there is a toggle on both of the forward lower shrouds, between the chainplate and the turnbuckle. (see photo)
I have not seen this toggle in the MKI owner's manual, and I've searched the forum and found no mention of it. So I'm curious if anyone else has toggles on these shrouds? If they were added by a PO, can anyone offer a guess what their purpose is?

Bob,
It is not standard equipment, but more than likely a solution from a PO for a short shroud.

Our MKII has toggles, from the factory. I assume they're there to ensure the turnbuckle attaches to the chaiplate with no "side-loading".

I can understand the logic behind this way of mounting - the forces on the T-piece of the turnbuckle are more evenly spreaded when pointing longitudinal instead of transversal. Not a bad idea to my opinion.
