We live about 90 minutes south of there and used to go every year. It was a fine time for us, but eventually we stopped going for no other reason than this is a busy time of year and we would rather be sailing. Can't say what the show is like today, but if you live close by, it's worth checking out.

I'll go Sunday and buy something I don't need. :)

So I went and of course bought something I didn't need. The show was very nice. Nice respite from the end of sailing in the northeast. The feel of the show to me is more Jimmy Buffet, islandish than the Newport show yacht club feel I'm use to.

Don't get me wrong, I love our boats, however I was not impressed with the current lineup of Catalinas. To some extent it's tough to see their lines in such tight quarters and I don't know about their sailing prowess. However their deck and living areas I found ok but "blah". It wasn't like when my wife and I first saw the 36 and where wowed in comparison to the other boats in the show.

Hope Catalina is not going to loose out to the competition.

I have never experienced a boat show with a Yacht Club feel. I guess I would have to wear my formal flip-flops. :D

BTW, Enrique, from your signature, we have no idea where you live. It sounds like you might have traveled a long way to visit St. Pete, FL.

I was in Bradenton for family reasons and decided I could use a sailing brake.

I am in the water, at my dock, right behind my house. It's supposed to be 81 degrees today with a N/E of 10-20. Too hot to take the bimini off yet.

On my way back to frozen New England tomorrow Tom. I'll leave it to fellow 36'rs to figure out if I'm a bad speller or a victim of spell check

Enrique, we just visited Bradenton by boat in Oct and really enjoyed the area. Hope you enjoyed your sojourn in the warm South.

I'm really not trying to rub it in, but it is 83F today. Went for a nice sail yesterday in shirtsleeves. Hope you get back down soon for good reasons.

I just got home from the St. Pete Show. Its nothing comparied to Newport or Annapolis. But I live in Tallahassee about a 4.5 hour drive.I used to live in St. Pete. I like going to the show every year because I can get a cheap hotel on the beach and hang out with old friends. The show is a side benefit and good excuse to go. The show has fewer and fewer, in water cruising sailboats each year. But the simnars, sponsored by Blue Water Sailing Mag are great. Free with show admission, many subjects are covered, Heavy Weather Sailing, Cruising the Keys, Cruising the Bahamas, Anchoring, single side band radio, etc etc. Some of the presenters are renowned blue water sailors. I especially enjoyed John Kretschmer's talk on Heavy Weather Sailing. He's sailed thousands of miles with numerous Atlantic and pacific crossings and a trip around Cape Horn in a 32 footer. I'm now enjoying his book, "Sailing A Serious Ocean". So, yes the Show is worth it, for the seminars if nothing else. I also bought my share of accessories that I probably didn't need. (except those foul weather bibs, I really needed those) (Oh, and the anchor bridle, I needed that, and the extendable boat brush. And what about the two dozen beer coozies. Those were free!) But come to think of it, I've never been to a boat show I didn't like.

Unfortunately, this show seems to have less each year. There was little to show for electronics with West Marine being a more worthwhile visit for electronics perusing.

I really never hit the seminars and will have to try some next year.
