Searching Website vs. Searching Forums

Perhaps this distinction has not been fully explained. Searches can be done in both the Forums and in the main part of the website, and searching one area will not bring up any info in the other area. I know that many people don't even know that the C36/375IA website exists (they just go straight to the forums), but the main site contains LOTS/TONS/HUGE amounts of info. If your computer "remembers" your login info, you should be able to go seamlessly between the two (website and forums). If you see lots of ads, that means you are not logged in. When you do a search in the main part of the website, you are searching the pages that include all the technical, maintenance, and upgrade articles. As I helped put the articles on the site, I know from first hand experience that there are hundreds of them!!! The forums started from scratch a few years ago, while the main part of the website was initially fed from two previous C36IA sites, going back more than 10 years. There are a lot more 'how-to' and detailed articles on the website compared to the forums. You should check it out. Hope this helps.

PS-One other thing I should mention. If you get very few 'hits', or you navigate to a page on the website that says "There are currently no posts in this category", it means you are not a member of C36/375IA, and don't have access to the Technical Section. Membership has its privileges!

Another thing some people don't know - you can google search specific sites. For instance, if i want to search for 'compass' on all parts of this site, I put into google:

site:c36ia.com compass

and I get pages of hits from both the forum and the regular parts of the site.

Sometimes this is more powerful than the built-in search systems.

hint: this works on craigslist too if you are looking for boat stuff...

Seems like we've gone backwards in terms of search capability. I miss the AltaVista days, when I could search like this:

("mast step" and repair) or ("mast partner" and repair)

....where I wouldn't get 500 hits of "mast", all of which are totally irrelevant to what I was actually looking for.

Am I just missing something simple about how this works these days?

I don't think so Ben, I agree with your thoughts. I did a google search the other day and I got 5 pages of hits all from 1 website, none of which were relevant, had to wade through all of that before I got anything else at all. It did seem we could control searches better even just a year ago. Don't know what google has done but they've decided their logic is smarter than us, and I find it worse, not better.

Notice how many commercial google-subscriber sites come up - it's all about money folks...

Tom
I have just down loaded the instructions I need to change the M35B fuel filtres.
And Yes, they instantly came via the Website.

Thanks to you and all who put them there.
