I Am Considering Buying A 150 Furling Genoa From Catalina. The Weight They Advertise Is 5.53 Ounces. Does Anyone Have An Opinion As To Whether That Is A Heavy Enough Weight For Such A Large Sail For A Catalina 36?

Go for it. Catalina is offering an incredible deal, probably because they have discontinued the 36. I bought one from them and am very pleased.

I would make the assumption that the lighter sail cloth is because one would not normally carry such a large headsail unless the wind speeds were moderate. In light air when you would want/need such a sail, the light cloth will make it shape better.
If you are used to carrying too much sail in a building breeze, the lighter construction may shorten its useful life.
Still, it sounds like a good deal.

Being In Buzzards Bay MA that is way to light. I also was looking at that sail, I talked to a sail maker and he said that is fine for light breeze. But in 15-20 he thought there would be problems. I eneded up having one built with 7.5 oz. Very little do we sustained winds of 5-10 if we did I would be flying that sail .

The summer's in Texas are typically hot and close to windless. Many of our summer regatta's turn into Drift Fests or Lake Bakes. I bought the 150% with this in mind and ironically I originally felt the 5.53 oz cloth was bit on the heavy side.
