Rudder line guard

I'm thinking about installing this during our next haul out.   The goal is to minimize weeds & crab pots caught in our rudder.
The fin is G10 and 3" tall.
Any thoughts, concerns, or better ideas?

Hi Ray,

I'm not sure, but you may just be creating a new problem.  I'd be worried about the new vertical gap.

Thanks for your input Lou,

That's the worry, one solution causes another problem.

Tom Soko simply epoxied a stainless steel bolt at an angle, see  https://julandra.shutterfly.com/304#283
I think this would do the trick pretty well (without creating a new wedge issue) (one of the few of Toms' 100-plus excellent mods -- that he so carefully documented -- that we have yet to implement) .

I've used a couple of Tom's modifications elsewhere and found them very helpful.    I like the idea of a simple post per Tom's suggestion but I'm unsure how thick the hull is in this area.   I think the keel section in front of the rudder (I don't know the proper name) is probably solid or mostly solid but don't really know.   Any idea how deep I can safely drill in this area?
Thanks for your input,
Ray
