Removing bulbs from Salon Ceiling Lights

My first post -- I am stymied -- how do you remove the bulbs in the "ceiling" lights in the salon (two stainless fittings each with a switch and bulb)?  I am guessing that the original bulbs probably have two pins, and need to be pushed up and rotated.  I am unable, however to get the little bulb out.  Suggestions would be most appreciated.  Our new to us boat is a 2006 MKII.  Also, if anyone has replaced these with LED, supplier and part # would be great.  Thanks in advance.  By the way, this forum was instrumental in our determination to return to the Catalina family with the purchase of our 36.

I assume that your 2006 has the silver-colored "eyeball" swivel lights (picture) that the 1999 had. As far as removing, the bulb is a 15 mm bayonet bulb (BA15S), so you push slightly against the spring at the bottom, and rotate 1/8 turn to the left to disengage the pins on the side.  This type of fitting is subject to corrosion, so it may be tough and of course your fingers are on glass, so be careful.  I am told by Marinebeam that the swivel lights are difficult to fit with a standard bulb, and recommend their longer "elevator" bulb (http://store.marinebeam.com/8-led-high-powered-1383-1385-r12-4w-elevator...).  The whole fixture can be removed and disassebled by removing the four corner screws.  This allows you to put a little white grease on the swivels so they actually move, and service whatever electrical connections.

I have debated what to do with mine, so have not replaced the bulbs yet.  Personally, I do not like the fixture, so was thinking about putting more of a general lighting fixture rather than a spotlight swivel, similar to: http://store.marinebeam.com/surface-mount-led-fixture-with-dimming-fx-ys...

John,
Thanks for your reply.  The fixture in question is the one you show.  Now that I know there is no "magic" for removing the bulb I am assuming that corrosion is the problem.  This weekend I will remove the fixture and see what I can do.  Also, thanks for the information on the LEDs.
