portland pudgy / need a new dinghy

Hi everyone.
We're in the midst of outfitting our 1983 MK1 for off shore cruising (mexico and further south) and the old inflatable dinghy that came with the boat wont fit the bill. I'm eyeing the Portland Pudgy with the sail kit ( many pros to note but biggest selling feature is that it doubles as an emergency life raft. I'm thinking two birds with one stone but the wife is worried it won't fit well on the foredeck and may get in the way when tacking the headsail...It is a bit bulky....I was wondering if anyone has had any exprience with the P.Pudgy ? pros and cons ? it's kind of a big investment for us but does it fit well with the layout of the c36 ? We definitely don't want to tow it......much rather have it on deck. Any feedback/ advice would be most welcome. Cheers .

We have a walker bay 10 with the add on inflatable tubes and sail kit. It just barely fits on the foredeck without blocking the anchor locker, tacking works fine except for it gets caught on the ratchet straps i use to hold it down, that can be easily fixed though with proper tie-down.

I personally would prefer a inflatable that would work on my davits better(its just too heavy and bends the stern rail atm) or something that I can fully deflate and store. Hauling off the deck is a pain, so much i avoid using the dinghy at all costs or tow it if its a short trip till I use it again.

IMHO, If you're going off shore, I would keep the two separate.  Have a proper off-shore life raft and have a proper dinghy.
