Way overdue post and an update on my new sails quest for my 2000 with roller furling sails.
Ended up getting my sails, as many others here have, from Chic Lassiter from Mack Sails. Absolutely thrilled with the quality, value and performance of my new sails. Chic's knowledge of the Catalina 36 and specifically the roller furling main led to the absolutely optimal sail configuration for my boat. I've had it out in about everything and have been most impressed with the light air sailing. We now sail when we would have motored.
I ended up going with Mack sails after the personal experience of those on this forum and local sailors that were quite happy. The real deal sealer were a couple of sailors that went local, to get that perfect sail and ended up with a sail that was cut short. Apparently the local lofts order overseas and tend to knock off 6" or so to ensure the sail fits and doesn't need a recut. They weren't happy - obviously.
Having had a Catalina 36 rollerfurling setup, Chic suggested a 140 Genoa (with a 100 foam luff) and ensuring the main is using all the boom to get the max sail area. The main was literally cut to use every bit of the boom. In fact, I thought it was too long when I first installed the sails. Travis asked for some pictures and had me readjust my outhaul setup on the main - fixed! He explained that they buillt this main to use every bit of the boom.
IMHO, I received sails custom designed for my boat and am extremely happy, every time I sail!
