New owners on FL Gulf Coast (panhandle)

Thanks to all here for such a great website and excellent resources!  I've been perusing the forums quietly as we've been in the process of purchasing a 1989 MK1.  Our first step as new owners?  Joining the C36 Association!

We completed sea trial and survey about 2-1/2 weeks ago, and (broker's choice) left her on the hard while we finished negotiating.  Once we reached an agreement, had to have a few items addressed before the insurance company would let her go in the water, installed a new through-hull for the future addition of air conditioning, a fresh bottom job, and a LOT of buffing (the old girl hadn't been loved on in a long time).  Finally, thursday, we put her back in the water and made a wonderful 5-hour journey to her slip (after all the boats we've chartered, I can't believe how well she points!).  We have a long list of improvements and upgrades that we plan to do, mostly on "working weekends" as we work a little and sail a little.

Thanks again for a great resource, and for all the questions that were answered before we ever had a chance to ask!

Dan & Amanda, welcome, we just joined ourselves as well.

Our insurance company had us reply with a detailed action plan based on the survey findings
and recommendations by the surveyor. Did you have to do this as well?

It's pretty detailed and we don't even do that with aircraft so I was pretty amazed by how
interested the insurance companies are that discrepancies are resolved.
Some of them are going to take a loooong time but we are getting started :-)

We did have to provide evidence to the insurance company that the "safety critical" items were corrected, and that the electrical panel had been inspected and deemed safe by a marine electrician.  Much of this just involved providing receipts to our insurance agent (who has been AWESOME to work with!).  Initially the underwriters put us on "port risk" until these items were corrected.  After we sent them all the information when critical repairs were completed, they cleared us within an hour for our normal coverage.

I was surprised as well at how detailed the insurance company was with their requirements.  The remainder of the survey recommendations, I just need to provide information to the insurance company as we correct them.
