Greetings

My wife and I just took possession of a 2000 Catalina 36 MKII #1885.  Officially renamed and documented "Summer Wind", we took her out for the first time the other day and she performed perfectly, while my wife, teenage son and I chipped off a few years of sailing rust since our last sail together a few years ago on a Hunter 36.

While out, we did the "obligatory" renaming ceremony invoking the blessings of Neptune and Aeolus with Champaign toasts.  Next sail we'll do the Poseidon blessing, as we had yet to remove her previous logbooks (apparently there can be nothing aboard with the former name written).  It may not be perfect, but we'll do the best we can and have some fun with it!

We're looking forward to many fun adventures ahead, and I'm sure I'll have some C-36 questions as we go along.  The previous owner took exceptional care of her, so not much to do for now, but sail!!!

Thanks....and btw...Hello!

Chris

Chris;
Welcome to the Forum ! We all have learning curves with these boats and you've come to the right place for answers. I have had mine for eight years now and the assistance offered by the group has been a very big help. Don't be afraid to ask even the simplest of questions as there is lots of experience offered here. Best of luck with your new boat and get out there sailing!
Might also be a good idea to note your location in your signature line.
Bill

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the welcome.  I've used other forums for other boats in the past, and I've heard the Catalina owners groups are the best, so I'm looking forward to some discussions here.

Good idea about the location.  Added my home port on the signature line, and I'll get a profile pic soon.

Cheers!

Chris

Hey Chris,
My wife and I own hull 1897 and sail on the Upper Mississippi (think 45 miles straight east of Rochester, MN.   Home port is Pepin Marina, Pepin, WI. Beng such close hull numbers I wouldn't doubt the two boats are quite similar with the exception of owner updates.
Our forum "siblings" can be incredibly response and helpful.

Hello Peter,
Yes.  Those are definitely close  hull numbers.  Not sure how many they were building at once, but could be that  ours was leaving the factory, while yours was coming out of the mold.  Ours has the "L" shape settee in the saloon with the swing down table, while I know some have the "U" shape with a pedestal table.  Other than that, we are the 3rd owners and the previous two did not modify much, if anything, save for adding a nice full canvas bimini & sail cover package.

We plan on doing some electrical upgrades, solar, dedicated start battery and maybe a higher output charging alternator at some point, to get a little more energy independence while on the hook/mooring.  Other than that, she's pretty much got everything we need!

Thanks for checking in, and nice to hear how much you love the Catalina boats!

Happy sailing!

Chris

Hi Folks,
I have been lurking and reading for a couple of months so I am fairly new as well.  We bought (new to us) Hull 1909 this past summer.  We are out of Norfolk, VA.   Looking forward to sharing what knowledge I have as well as soliciting yours as we get to know our boats.
cheers,
JEB

Hey John welcome (actually, you've been a member longer than I, but welcome just the same!).  #1909, is another close number, hope you're enjoying her.  As I'm writing this, I just woke up after spending the night on our boat, and sitting here at the game table with a cup off coffee!  Great times!

Cheers!
