Fridge Temp Issue

When I got the boat about a year ago, fridge kept quite cold (according to a fridge thermometer) all over, even when not on quite the coldest setting.

Stupid me accidentally turned the fridge off in November so that everything turned into a mushy, nasty, foul smelling mess. Left it off and didn't clean it until late April (about 6-7 months later). In April, cleaned with soap, water, sanitized with very light bleach, rinsed it out.

Trouble is, now it just doesn't get as cold as it did before it was off for 7 months. On the top rack, the fridge thermometer barely registers in the "safe" zone with the thermostat on the coldest setting, and I'm definitely having food spoil early. Any thoughts as to what the problem could be?

Thanks!

I had a friend with an older Vovo station wagon who proudly told me he never ran his air conditioning. I told him he should use it regularly, because the seals can dry out. Keep using it regularly, you don't have to leave it on 24/7. You might want to check the refrigerant charge.

I will agree with Stu. It is better to be used. I have been in the same position as you are. So I called upon a A/C guy and because I had to wait days on him I went to NAPA and bought my own gauges and then did some reading up on http://www.kollmann-marine.com/ Usually setting like I would dare say you have lost just a ounce or two or if thY as they do not take very much freeon. It was the best money spent for gauges and my time reading.
