Ever use an auto part store fuel filter?

I went to West Marine today to pick up a couple of new fuel filters, but only found my first one, which is the 30 micron Raycor.
They didn't carry the actual Universal fuel filter, but were able to cross reference a Fram fuel filter, which i might be able to find at my local auto part store.
Anyone ever try this?
I wonder if there is a difference between the Universal filter, and the Fram?

I use Amazon for my on engine fuel filter and oil filter.  NAPA is a good place for the filter in the lift pumps.  Stu Jackson has a good cross reference page on his engines 101 (IIRC). c34.org.

I have no universal branded filters on the boat

Went to the fuel dock, and they had a Baldwin they said would work.

I routinely use NAPA filters. Never a problem. NAPA #3390.
