Eccotemp Hot Water

Has anyone installed a portable hot water shower unit ?
I am considering installing the Eccotemp L5 portable hot water shower in the head.
If anyone has done it, can you comment on the installation?

Just be aware that these do no meet the marine safety standards. If or when you undergo an insurance survey any sharp surveyor will suggest the unit be removed. I have removed a fair number of noncompliant LPG devices over the last few years as insurers crack down on safety related issues. Any LPG appliance such as a water heater needs to be "room sealed" combustion, meaning it exhausts combustion gasses to the outside of the vessel and brings in combustion air also from outside the vessel.

Thanks Main sail,

Safety should always be a number one priority and is good advice.

But one shouldn't let old ideas inhibit innovation.

The Eccotemp Hot water unit is designed to be used outside and hanging from my davits, the shower wand reaches the stern of the boat easily. Nice place for a hot water shower. You could plumb into the fresh water system at the stern of the boat and use your fresh water tank and water pump to provide water to your Eccotemp Heater
You could also suspend the unit from a port stay and pass the shower wand through the port head window.

Here in the Great Lakes, fresh water pumped through a submersible water pump would be an practically unlimited supply of shower water or you could mount the unit in the head and positively vent the unit out the head hatch. installing the vent and removing the vent when not being used.

Buy a converter that converts the connection from a 20 pound propane tank to the small 1 pound tank and mount it from the heater with a hanging wire basket.

But which ever creative solution you may try, stay safe.

I was responding to: "Has anyone installed a portable hot water shower unit ? I am considering installing the Eccotemp L5 portable hot water shower in the head."

By installed and in the head I guessed that you wanted to permanently install an EcoTemp...

There have been a number of deaths due to incorrectly installed and incorrect appliance choices over the years (Paloma's for example) and the marine safety standards have derived from that..

When it comes to venting the unit itself needs to be designed for room sealed combustion, if you're installing it in the vessel.  If you want to hang it outside that's up to you...
