sailing C36 #1245 since day one (1992)
tried all manner of baskets/bins to stow stuff in the frig
drives my wife CRAZY pulling out several bins to get to the one thing she needs....esp. if it is WAY down near the bottom. has anyone constructed your own that fit the contours of the (Mk I) fridge?
I'm thinking about two layers, lower one with collapsing handles that might support upper one
each would need to fit through the opening of the cover (hinged back over the freezer section).
Fabricate mock up in foam poster board, then glass it? or make mock up then construct with light plywood, taped at joints and epoxed to seal....maybe drill rows of holes to lighten it and allow drainage.
Anyone with ideas or success in a similar project?

custom bins for refrigerator?
Encore,
I cut two pieces of clear plexi to fit on the ledges molded into the fridge, connected by small strips of wood to keep them in place. On top of those pieces is third piece of plexi, with small wooden fiddles on its top and bottom. The bottom fiddles were to keep it aligned with the bottom pieces, and the top fiddles were to keep items on top of it from falling into the bottom of the fridge. The size was just big enough for the molded white bin that comes in the larger Igloo coolers. The bin holds lots of smaller stuff, and you can slide it back and forth to access items in the bottom part of the fridge. I had always planned to re-cut the wooden pieces out of teak, but I never got around to it. Worked well for many years, and more importantly, it was Admiral approved! Hope this helps.

Tom...SO GLAD that you are still active in the world of C36s!! Thanks for the detailed description AND...especially...the photo. As I look at the holes you cut into the clear plexi, do I see a second set of holes? possibly in a lower shelf?

Brian,
I think those are shadows of the holes, showing on the white gelcoat in the bottom of the fridge. Probably from the light above the fridge/stove area. I only had one layer of plexi. There are also holes in the vertical piece of plexi between the small triangular section and the larger square section below.

Thanks for the ideas and the photos. Our admiral tried a low tech cheap improvement that we have been using for past few years. She bought various light weight "lingerie" bags with zippers and now we store like items in a single bag. For example, ketchup, mustard, mayo in one bag. Deli meats, cheese, etc. in another. So we have 2-4 bags of small items loosely on top of larger items in the bottom of the fridge. Not as good as Tom's proposal, but an improvement of what we used to tolerate.
