Cowl Vents

I have a 1988 C36 which has soft plastic cowl vents that are cracked and split. I want to replace them. Does any one know where I might get an exact fit replacement in either plastic or metal?....Thanks in advance...... Karl

Cruiser,

Try the search function of this site, if you search "REFINISH COWL VENTS"
you will find a couple pages of posts regarding repairing yours vents, replacing them with plastic or stainless units.

Catalina Direct sells cowl vents, not sure as to dimensions, but you may want to check out.

The ones from Catalina Direct that Allan supplied the link for are the EXACT ones you need. I just bought and installed them and they are perfect. You will be very happy.

The exact cowl vents, which were made by Vetus, I believe, are also available through Jamestown Distributors. They are not cheap!

No they are not cheap. Personal opinion here, I prefer the round vents over the oval ones that Vetus makes. My avatar has mine, and they are white on the inside. I might have a reverse photo somewhere. I'm on the wrong computer tonight.

I really like those stainless ones, but when I was looking I couldn't figure out which ones match our base exactly so I just went with the direct replacements. They are pricey at about 100 bucks each, but after ten years, baby deserved nice new vents, and they look great. I imagine the stainless ones are even more, no? Problem is, with the new vents and new rubrail, my lifelines are looking pretty crappy. It never ends.:D

Is there a lower-profile option for these cowls? In the NW I often have the vents closed anyways for warmth, would like something that sticks up a bit less.

Are the stainless an exact fit in place of the rubber cowls?

The lowest profile you can get is to take the dorade portion off and just leave the stainless steel mechanism for closing the hole. That's for the original Vetus models.
