CobbQ Cooker

I came across this South African bbq, oven, cooker that would be perfect on a boat when you crave real bbq flavor. The bottom and outside of the unit remains cool and can be lifted and held with bare hands. Has anybody in our group used this unit and what are your thoughts?

We have one. They do work well, and you can get a marine kit, that includes a wind break and cable to prevent the lid falling off.
You can also buy coconut husk fuel disks, that make lighting and powering the unit very easy.

Well worth the $$

OK, you guys have my curriosity up, what is this thing? Does it have a brand name? I see that it can be lit with coconut husk fuel, I assume that is for tropical use. Can you use buffalo chips as well?

Thankyou for your input Rockman. Steve, I first read about the Cobb Grill in the July 2010 issue of Sail. Since it was dumping snow all last weekend I was reading everything I could find to satisfy my sail craving. Check out their website; www.cobbq.com It retails for $139.95. Can be used as a grill to do burgers and steaks or with the lid on it can cook a roast or bake bread.

I've never been a big fan of my Magna grill, but being able to attach it to the pushpit rail is key. This looks like you'd have to have a flat surface somewhere to use it. With the charcoal, it'd have to be on deck, and I sure wouldn't want to put it ON the deck. Ideas? It looks like a good "q".

The marine kit includes an arm that attaches to the stainless tubing on your pushpit. The body is cool, so you can sit it on the cockpit table if you want.

You can use normal Weber style charcoal fuel and fire lighters.
The trick is filling the outer ring with water/beer/juice/etc, to increase the moisture in the roast.

I am trying to envision this. Can you shoot a pic of it to share with all of us?
