Transmission was jamed going into reverse, ended up hiting piling, and smashing bow pulit. Any ideas where I can buy one, new, used, or made in Miami? Slip is vary narrow, 4" wider than beam. Boat is a 2005 Catalina 36 MkII. Surprised this did not happen sooner.

Barry, that's a bummer. But call Catalina in Largo, Florida. They probably have a jig to make them to a spec, or their vendor has.
Also, per another thread on this same forum, Peter Gutierrez' boat was dropped off of a truck, so he might have a salvageable bow pulpit once the insurance is done.

You say your transmission was jammed in reverse? Were you able to get it 'un-jammed'? My transmission jammed twice, both times while shifting from forward to reverse. Second time it would not come out of reverse and had to be rebuilt. Just curious if you were having the same problem.

I have a method where I have enough momentum, then put it in neutral before I make my final turn. Then I can engage forward to stop me. If the gearbox will not go into forward then the mooring lines till stop me.
Plan for worst possible outcome, and you will not be caught out as often.

Has jamed a couple of times before going into reverse, but got to netural and boat was able to in, winds were very light. Normally they are 18-22 hit meon beam as I turn into slip.

I have noted several posts regarding MKII boats with m35 engines where owners have set the idle speed as high as 1200 rpm for smoother operation.
I mention this as I put a Kiwi prop on my boat and it really loads up in reverse, is quite hard to get out of reverse if I have the power up. If I bring the power back and hence unload the prop it comes out easily, what was your RPM when this happened? In hectic situations it is not hard to forget to bring the power back before trying to shift, you can run out of hands, one for the wheel, one for the throttle and one for the shifter.
As for your pulpit, be careful that the bargain used one you locate does not cost more to ship than what you would save on having a new one fabricated locally.
Being as close to Catalina Yachts factory, I trust you have checked with them. Is this an out of pocket expense or are you going to make an insurance claim, this should be covered?

Was fairly slow, thottle all the back. Haven't decided about insurance yet. Need to first get total price, figure deductible and increase on next year's insurance cost.

What insurance do you have? I have BoatUS. I had a major claim a couple of years ago (new mast). It didn't increase my premium. They said if I had another claim in the next few years it would. I think it's like auto insurance -- it takes more than one claim to increase the premium, maybe unless you're clearly at fault.

In my case, the idle is under 1000 rpm; it's a little bit rough, but not enough to bother with. The transmission locked up shifting from forward to reverse. (The manual says you can do that at full throttle, but I wouldn't want to try it.) Same thing the second time, but it would not come back to neutral no matter what. I discussed it via email with Bob McCullough and we both agreed that the tranny had not come out of forward before it grabbed reverse, causing the lock up. I make a concerted effort to always hit neutral first, as I'd not like to repeat losing power in the middle of docking in a strong wind; good thing my wife was along to assist.
