Boarding ladder extension

On my C-36 #150, the transom boarding ladder ends with the bottom rung less than a foot underwater. When I was younger (and lighter) that was not too much of an issue but after recent knee surgery, it is simply not useable. Has anybody found a way to get more rungs under water? If I add a step to the ladder, it will stick up above the rail when raised and may not look good. I'm thinking about buying one of the telescoping ladders like West Marine sells and having it welded to the existing ladder in place of the last step - that way it would offer more steps under water and collapse to normal rail height when raised. Any better ideas??

Hi Fred, have you figured a way to extend the transom ladder?  I have a 84 mk I and have same issue.  No longer a gymnast.  A swim platform would stick out too much for marina rules.  Wondering if there is a longer ladder on the market.  I dont mind if it sticks up above the hand rail when not deployed.  Thanks !

Maybe experiment with a rope ladder extension with a 2-3 teak rungs (or some other heavier-than-water wood). Make so it would clip on to the last ladder rung and could readily be removed for storage.
