Hi folks,
Been busy sailing, sorry for not checking in much! On my last crossing to the Santa Barbara Channel Islands my autohelm (ST3000) belt snapped. I found a great replacement (polybelt.com), but while I was tinkering with it I noticed that the miniwheel that clamps on the steering wheel is very worn. It appears to have once had little teeth all the way around, the better to provide friction to the belt. But now it's worn almost completely smooth. Given that the ST3000 tends to struggle anyway in the 5' - 8' forward-quarter wind swell we commonly encounter, the belt had been slipping quite a bit anyway. I'd rather that it part sooner but grip better in the meantime, so I'm wondering if anyone:
(a) can confirm that the miniwheel is supposed to have nicely grooved teeth, or
(b) has a surplus ST3000 miniwheel in better shape than mine laying around that I could purchase.
Thanks guys,
- nick
