"On Off" and a sink

After using On Off to remove the brown stains at the waterline I had difficulty removing the sleeve from the roller. During a massive brain fart I rested the roller on the divider of the galley sinks, yes I did.....

Anyway I wiped it clean later on, but the next weekend I noticed severe rust, and again washed it out, realizing now On Off is acid.

My question is should I start looking for another sink?????

Thanks

Depending on how much of your finish was damaged, maybe yes.

As a last resort before changing out the sink, it might be worthwhile to try sanding the sink with fine grit sandpaper, and then "polish" it with steel wool. It's a stainless steel sink, but we know it's not the highest quality steel. Possibly the acid didn't eat deeply into the metal and it can be salvaged.

If it comes to replacement, you might try RV suppliers first.

There is no reason that you should not be able to sand out the rust stains. stainless steel is stainless all the way through, unlike aluminum, which has an anodized finish only a few microns thick.

However, when you do use steel wool to finish the job, use stainless steel wool, because small particles of the steel wool will get embedded into the stainless steel, and weep subsequently weep rust.

Thanks again to all. After sanding I used a bronze brush on my cordless drill and it seems to have really cleaned it up. There is no pitting, and all the rust marks are gone. Now my sinks look like the engine cover of the Spirit of St. Louis, with the swirls.

Thanks again.

The Spirit of Saint Louis made it accross the Atlantic, is your boat ready now?

Hey, that sounds like a very stylish effect! It's exactly what my wife said she wants as a s/s backsplash in our kitchen. (This is true.)
